Abstract In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis procedures are presented for the prediction of behavior characteristics of reinforced concrete beams with deterioration and lap-spliced bars. For this purpose, a nonlinear analysis program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology) was used. Damage modelling considers corrosion and includes the reduction of cross-sectional area of corroded bars, the reduction of ductility of reinforcing bars, and the deterioration of concrete strength. Lap spliced bar elements considering aging are developed to predict behaviors of deteriorated lap spliced bar. The proposed numerical method for prediction of behavior characteristics of reinforced concrete beams with deterioration and lap-spliced bars is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.
