Title Performance Evaluation of Torque-Controlled Expansion Anchors Installed in Cracked Concrete

Abstract This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of torque-controlled expansion anchors installed in cracked concrete. Pull-out test results showed that all anchor diameters satisfied the allowable coefficient of variation for ultimate tension load specified in the standard, set at 15 %. The influence of cracking on anchor strength was more pronounced in low-strength concrete than in high-strength concrete, but the coefficient of variation remained within the specified limit. The pull-out test results also showed that the anchors exceeded the nominal strength values outlined in ACI and ETAG for cracked concrete. However, there was a large discrepancy between the actual anchor strength and the nominal strength due to the actual anchor failure area exceeding the projected area specified in the standard. The ratio of the actual anchor failure area to the projected area can be used to accurately predict actual anchor strength. However, additional research is needed to analyze the trends in anchor failure forms, as some of the anchor failure forms differ from the shape of the projected area specified in the standard.
