Abstract The design method of reinforced concrete deep beams was replaced by the Strut-Tie Model in the KCI-07 design code. Strut-Tie Model can efficiently calculate the strength of D-region by using the force equilibrium condition, but the calculation process is too complex to be applied to RC deep beam design. In this study, an equation was proposed to evaluate node failure that takes the most time in the design of RC deep beams by using Strut-Tie Model. The proposed equation divides STM into a detailed method and a simplified method. The detailed STM and simplified STM were compared with the results of 705 RC deep beam tests. Comparison results showed that the results of the detailed STM and the simplified STM were exactly the same.
