Abstract This study is a performance evaluation of special structural walls with boundary elements reinforced using spiral transverse ties. Experimental study was conducted and the test results were evaluated in terms of structural behavior, seismic performance, and performance-based behavior. Three specimens were designed with variables of placement method of spiral transverse ties, axial force ratio, and length of boundary elements. It was also planned to allow comparison with the experimental results of previous studies. The structural performance of specimens was evaluated using KDS codes for the structural behavior, NEHRP (2003) for the seismic performance as a special structural wall, and ACI 374.2R and ACI 374.3R for the performance-based behavior. Through the above study, it was concluded that satisfactory results could be obtained when the boundary element of special structural walls was reinforced with spiral transverse ties.
