Abstract The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of the maximum longitudinal reinforcement ratio () specified in KCI 2017 provision to the lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) T-beams. Based on the flexural behavior obtained from four beam specimens governed by flexure and 2-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis, the relationship between longitudinal reinforcement index and displacement ductility ratio was estimated. Test results revealed that the moment capacity and ductility of LWAC T-beams with the maximum depended on the concrete crushing in compression zone. The flexural capacity predicted using the equivalent stress block specified in KCI 2017 provision tended to overestimate the results measured in the beam specimens. Ultimately, the maximum specified in KCI 2017 provision needs to lower for LWAC beams to achieve the equivalent ductility to normal-weight concrete beams.
