Abstract This study investigates seismic performance and failure mechanism of nonstructural components by experimental tests for single post-installed expansion anchor with lever arm. The test parameter includes the lever arm length of load introduction. The test results show that the structural performance of the anchor was governed by the onset of local buckling of cylinder and concrete breakout under shear and tensile load cycling, respectively. Current design codes do not reflect the failure mechanisms of the anchor in this study, failing to predict the performance of the anchor under shear. This paper presents a refined design equation on the basis of the observed failure modes.
