Abstract This structural performance of a built-up composite pier bridge was investigated in this study. This involved the fabrication and testing of a full-size girder. In this work the precast coping is a structural member that connects the elements of a pier and transfers the load from superstructures to the pier. Compressive strength and flexural strength tests for the precast coping were conducted in the longitudinal and horizontal directions. The measured strength according to the compressive test is 4.6 times higher than the design strength. Moreover, the measured strength from the flexure test is 2.8 times higher than the design strength. The safety of the built-up composite pier bridge with precast coping was confirmed based on the results of the strength tests.
