Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of defoamer on the strength and ductility of a composite with compressive strength of 100 MPa and high ductility. Three types of mixtures were made according to the inclusion of defoamer and the water-to-binder ratio; the density, compressive strength, and tensile behavior were measured. Test results show that compressive strength of 102 MPa, tensile strength of 10.1 MPa, and tensile strain capacity of 3.92 % are achievable using the materials and mixture proportion proposed in this study; the strength and ductility can be improved by adding a small amount of defoamer.
