Title A Study on the Evaluation of the Carbonation Resistance and Properties Ternary blended Concrete According to Replacement Ratio of Blast Furnace Slag and Fly ash

Abstract In this study, the effect of large amount of FA and BFS substitution on physical properties and durability for ternary concrete was investigated. In order to construct a database for the establishment of standard for ternary concrete, the properties, strength, elastic modulus, and neutralization resistance of concrete with various substitution ratios of FA and BFS were compared and analyzed by experimental study. As a result of an experiment, ternary blended concrete has less air content than OPC does, but it has similar slump to that of OPC, regardless of the replacement ratio. There was a delay in the setting time of all types of ternary blended concrete with BFS and FA replaced than in that of concrete using OPC only. In addition, the compressive strength and the elastic modulus of concrete with the BFS and FA replaced in large quantities of 50 % to 90 % were lower than those of concrete using OPC only, regardless of the temperature condition. It was found that the more the replacement ratio of BFS and FA, the more the acceleration of carbonization of ternary blended concrete got, and it is judged that this tendency is a result of the decline of its ability to maintain pH as the consumption of Ca(OH)2 and the reduction in the quantity of Ca take place in combination with the increase in the replacement ratio of BFS and FA.Therefore, it is considered that quality control through tentative care and measures is necessary for the application of ternary concrete in which FA and BFS are mass substituted.
