Abstract Since concrete structures near the seaside can be degraded by chloride attack, durability design against chloride diffusion is required, such as using a proper cover depth or using appropriate materials with good resistance. As chloride durability design requires a series of complex calculations or execution of special software , it is difficult for general design engineers to follow these design processes. In this paper, design charts for chloride durability are proposed by investigating the KCI concrete standard specifications as well as former durability design cases. After determining design constants such as service life, diffusion decay index, and critical and surface chloride concentration, the required cover depth or diffusion coefficient can be derived from the design charts.
