Abstract Although RC (Reinforced Concrete) member is exposed to the same corrosive environment, service life varies with loading and cold joint conditions. This work is for an evaluation of varying service life in one member considering loading (compressive and tensile) and cold joint effect. For the work, concrete samples with cold joint cured for 365 days are prepared, and chloride diffusion coefficients are evaluated with loading level (30 % and 60 %), utilizing the results of 28 days and 91 days. The changing trends of diffusion coefficient are consistent with the previous result, showing that increasing diffusion in tensile region from initial loading but decreasing to initial loading, then increasing to 60 % of loading in compressive region. Through quantification of loading and cold joint effect, changing diffusion coefficients are obtained and service life is simulated for one-span simple beam. If the member height and crack effect on diffusion due to increasing loading, the technique can be utilized for evaluation of service life and planning of repairing strategy in concrete with weakness.
