Abstract Recently, a series of experimental studies on the structural performance of hollow PC columns have been conducted to improve the workability of framed buildings. This study, as a sequential study, analyzed the construction performance and behavior of exterior column-beam joints through an experimental study according to the details of the joint to investigate the structural performance of an exterior column-beam joint using hollow PC columns and a half PC beam. In addition the calculation procedure of strength codified indesign code was evaluated. The joints of this study are special moment frames and the connection of the columns is a head splice sleeve joint developed by Seo et al. Through the experiment, it was found that the exterior joint connected with the hollow PC columns and a half PC beam had structural performance equivalent to that of a RC structure for repeated lateral force. In particular, after yielding at around 1 % drift, it showed stable deformation without a decrease of strength up to 7 % in the positive direction and 5 % in the negative direction. Also, the strength reduction and stiffness degradation at each step and pinching after load reversal were found to be similar to those of RC specimens in general.
